"Solid Beginnings"

At the beautiful Elks Lodge by the Sound in Westbrook, CT
The topic "Solid Beginnings" will encompass piano, voice, strings, and jazz, with suggestions how to get your students off on the right foot. The major events will begin with a panel discussion on setting the foundations for development of technique, musicianship, right attitude, creativity, and strategies for effective practice.
Presenters include:
- Fei Xu, founder of the New Century Conservatory in Chandler, AZ, teacher of countless winning pianists.
- Irene Rissi, private violin teacher with over thirty years' experience
- Mary Beth Lee, soprano with a teaching studio in Norwich
- Willie Myette, creator of jazzkids.com and the JazzKids teaching series
In conjunction with the topic of the day, there will be a short recital by Anna Han, age 12. Anna was the second place winner of the 2008 Missouri Southern International Piano Competition and National First Place winner of the 2007 MTNA Baldwin Junior Piano Competition. She is a student of Fei Xu, and began lessons with him when she was 5 years old. There will also be a performance by Marianna Prjevalska, our 2008 Collegiate Winner, and a performance of this year's CSMTA Commissioned Work.
